Wednesday Creative Nanny: It's Apple Season
It's Apple Season.
If you have an apple orchard close to you, it's always fun to go on an outing to pick apples but, even if you don't pick your own apples, it's fun to sing, do fingerplays, read about and eat apples!
My favorite APPLE FINGERPLAY is called
Way Up High in the Apple Tree
Way up high in the apple tree (stretch arm up high)
Two red apples smiled at me (hold up 2 fingers)
I shook that tree as hard as I could (make a shaking motion)
Down came the apples, (make a downward motion)
Mmmm--were they good! (smile and rub stomach)
Go to Creative Nanny for another fingerplay ,apple songs and books and a fun snack idea.

Don't forget to make some apple treats with the apples you pick!
Apple Treats: Peel and cube pieces of apple so each child has about a tablespoon of apple. Give each child a refrigerator biscuit(in the tube kind. They should smash it pretty much flat. They'll love doing that! Spread the biscuit with a little butter. Add the apple cubes to the middle and sprinkle with a little sugar and cinnamon. Fold the biscuit in half and seal with a fork or fingers. Bake in the oven at 350 degrees for 12-15 minutes until golden brown. The apples will be hot inside, so tell them to be careful biting in. Enjoy!
Nanny in Boston
I wanted to share an interesting tidbit I heard recently. Graves Mountain Orchard in Syria, VA has an Apple Harvest Festival each year on the second and third weekends of October. It is alot of fun. You can go apple picking at any time. However, this year the orchard is down to 300 bushels of apples this because bears ate the other 4,700 bushels off the trees! Dang bears!
