It didn't long for me to learn it was a great profession. I have learned so many wonderful things from so many nannies it is hard to choose one. I think every nanny I have come across has taught me how to be a better nanny and a better person. One person who does stand out is a former employer’s mother. Who told me "what you do is the most important job. Some mother are not meant to stay home, they need a professional nanny to help guide them. You are and will always be an important person in the children’s life." It really made me want to be better, do better and learn more. The grandmother and I still keep in touch and still encourage me to continue working with children and helping parents.Kristenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16123603075326930410noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5874937638989705275.post-4847214132063962672009-07-31T15:14:18.141-04:002009-07-31T15:14:18.141-04:00When I started nannying in 1997, I didn't even...When I started nannying in 1997, I didn't even know I was a nanny! Where I lived, there were no nannies. I considered myself to be babysitting these kids full time.

Online, I met a woman named Susan who lived on the other side of the state, who clued me in that..duh..I was a nanny!

Long story short, it was Susan who introduced me to the nanny life. Taught me about contracts, taxes, car usage, etc. Through her I became a member of my first nanny support group, NAN. She had created a yahoogroup for local nannies, and in the end I ended up taking a job near her and we have been friends for over 10 years now.

While Susan is no longer working as a nanny, she was in the profession for over 10 years and I do credit her for my 12 year (so far!) nanny career.

Carli
CarliM410@gmail.comMehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09490795220155779364noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5874937638989705275.post-64045295932883646582009-07-30T22:00:26.081-04:002009-07-30T22:00:26.081-04:00www.erinsnannies.com

It's hard to name one person who has inspired me, but as a group WWN and the many nannies on the group have been there thru a lot of issues in my career. Glenda has also been a big influence on how I respond to things as a professional nanny. I have read several books and have learned so many things, but I have to say that most of my experience and drive has been gained by my own personal will to make sure that nannies and families who have nannies have safe, reliable and professional child care!

Andrea in Palm Springs.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5874937638989705275.post-80493936244731066622009-07-28T15:30:21.610-04:002009-07-28T15:30:21.610-04:00I honestly can't pick one individual who mento...I honestly can't pick one individual who mentored me because when I started working as a nanny in 1993, there weren't too many other nannies out there, as far as I knew.

I joined the (now defunct) Professional Nannnuy Association of Atlanta in 1995, and slowly found on-line groups and discussion boards over the next years. Everyone I met along the way has offfered valuable advice, opinions, ideas, and support to me as I learned what a nanny is, and chose to make nannying my chosen profession.

I believe we ALL have the power to be mentors to other nannies, and I hope I have helped others along the way.

nannydebsays@gmail.comTales from the (Nanny)Hoodhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14266117417206315356noreply@blogger.com
